Metatarsus Adductus
WHAT IS METATARSUS ADDUCTUS?
Understanding the condition
Metatarsus adductus is a common congenital foot deformity in which the front part of the foot (curved forefoot) turns inward. Parents may notice that their baby’s foot turns inward, giving the appearance of a curved foot in a baby or even what is commonly described as baby pigeon toes. This inward-turning foot is often present at birth and is one of the most common infant foot conditions.
Although many cases improve naturally, early assessment and metatarsus adductus treatment are important to reduce the risk of toe-in walking, future children’s foot problems, and difficulties with walking or footwear as the child grows.
