Heel Spurs
What is a Heel Spur?
Understanding the condition
Heel spurs are bony growths that develop on the underside of the heel bone (calcaneus). They often occur in association with plantar fasciitis, where chronic tension and inflammation of the plantar fascia pull on the heel bone, leading to calcium deposit buildup.
While some heel spurs cause no symptoms, others can result in sharp, stabbing pain when standing, walking, or taking the first steps after rest.
When to suspect a Heel Spur?
Signs & Symptoms
Sharp heel pain when standing up in the morning
Pain that worsens after prolonged walking
Tenderness and inflammation under the heel
How We Diagnose Heel Spurs
Diagnosis begins with a clinical examination of the foot and heel, focusing on pain location and tenderness.
Dr. Malek Abu-Al-Nadi may request X-rays to confirm the presence of a bony spur and assess the degree of inflammation or related plantar fasciitis.
A full assessment of foot mechanics helps guide an individualized treatment plan targeting both the spur and its underlying causes.
